Amazing bbq! So good. Closest thing to southern bbq you will find in South Florida. Great Brunswick stew and great outside environment. It was prepared quickly and was hot. Coleslaw was good and sweet tea was on point. Will tell all our friends and family that this is the spot to come to when they are in town from GA!!!!

It boggles my mind what some people consider good BBQ. Dixie pig was definitely not it. I discovered this place during a drive around town and decided to give it a try. I ordered the rib tips and 1/4 chicken special with two sides. The rib tips tasted smokey and the chicken tastes super Bland. It was obviously not marinated. Juat precooked and then grilled with the BBQ sauce for charred effect. The sides - fries and cole slaw also mediocre. The corn bread tastes like jiffys. Next time I want BBQ.. I am going to drive the extra few miles Two stars because the service was decent.

Go to jack's around the corner instead. If jack's is out of meat, go to Wendy's. The beans and slaw are out of a can and the meat was tasteless. Skip it.

I love Dixie Pig and have been coming here for years! This place isn't known for decor, but I love it because the food is consistent, excellent and in large portions. They have un-sweet iced tea which is great since I try to watch my sugar intake, and they also have a nice array of BBQ sauce choices. If you go there, please try the pulled pork and use the Carolina 'Treat' sauce. Platters come with 2 sides and hushpuppies. The cole slaw is excellent and vinegar based as opposed to other places where you will typically find slaw drowning in a milky puddle of mayo/salad cream. The beans and collard greens are excellent! I often bring my umbrella cockatoo there and he loves the pulled pork as well. They're at the corner of Dixie and Floranada.

I liked Dixie Pig quite a lot, but on the whole it's short of "four star" territory for me. I ordered the pulled pork sandwich and had the mac and cheese. The pulled pork sandwich was excellent and is four stars in my mind. The bun was soft but still held up to the pork (and the tons of sauce I slathered all over the sandwich). The pork had good flavor standing alone. And it was great with the addition of the sauces. I thought the best was the "gold" sauce, though I was also happy with the bites I tried with the sweet sauce and the vinegar sauce. It's my disappointment with the mac and cheese that keeps my review from being four stars. It was worse than average -- quite bland and gave me a generic, 'from the box' vibe. This is not to say it's terrible, but its a subpar side.

I'm a fan of the North Carolina BBQ style over any other and this little BBQ drive in is an authentic as it gets. The pork is tender and juicy. The buns are perfect. The servings are generous and the BBQ sauces are terrific. The counter help is warm and welcoming. Even the ice tea is better than most! One of my South Florida favorite spots!

This place is just ok. The mac n cheese is kind of gross but I ordered it for the kids and they loved it lol. I had the ribs and they were kind of like ribs someone would like grill out in their backyard. They had a really good sauce tho, I put it all over and it vastly improved the meal. My hubby had the sausage and I thought that was pretty good. There is only outdoor seating.

Came on a Sunday and the guy serving, which i believe was then owner was super amiable. Food was really good. Ordered the pulled beef and pork from the family pack. The price for he quality and even the quantity is good. The slaw is mayo-free which feels less heavy than the traditional. The sauces are another high point of this place. Great NC (treet) and mustard bbq sauce.

decent BBQ, we had the pork sandwich and chicken sandwich. They come with fries

Sweet tea was excellent. There is excellent value here, heaping plate for like $8.95. You know by now with my reviews that I reward not skimping on portion size. Only 3 stars on this one because the food was kinda bland. I had to drown meat in bbq sauce. I'd like to see them get a lil more sexy with the seasoning.

  • Christopher I.

It's shredded meat only. We had chicken, beef and pork. Chicken was good. The pork was dry. The beef was bad. Sweet Tea was decent honestly the best thing here was the hushpuppies.

I don't know what the rave is about. My chicken was slightly burnt, not very flavorful. Is this what real BBQ is supposed to taste like? Like blah? No thank you.

Stopped here after drinks one night for something to eat. I wasn't sure what I was going to get but I ended up with what must be about a half-slab of ribs and some steak fries. Fantastic bbq!! I can't wait to return.

Going through the BBQ train this place has yet again downcast us probably being one of the worse BBQ experiences we have had. The service, the food, and atmosphere is just not here- THE ATMOSPHERE: Pulling up to a roadside BBQ joint and snagging the last parking spot we thought we are in for a real treat. There is a rustic feel with outside bathrooms and patio-table seating. The majority of the tables are under a roof with open air walls which we went on a day that was bustling windy and cold so the "plastic walls" were down but didn't help much. This place looks down home and like nothing special that usually results in the best food you have had. This was far from the experience we hoped for.. THE SERVICE: Their menu is taped up to their walk up window with no smaller menus to take a closer look at (found them afterwards). So we ordered our usual with an extra side of chili since it was so cold. Our order was taken then we waited..... And waited... The service is lacking or there as none existent except to place your order. Our order seemed to go to a couple that arrived after us as an employee walked by and asked why we didn't have our food yet. Since this happened there was no kind of apology, it was just overlooked. THE FOOD: So now our food is finally here and we get up to get a couple of sauces and started to eat. Not to our surprise no Chili was ever brought out or even actually ordered. I received the Rib Basket which is a bit confusing since the "Rib Basket" only includes five ribs.. Therefore I also ordered a small side of Mac n Cheese. My meal was a complete fail. The Ribs were SOO fatty with so little meat on them and the Mac n Cheese was overly dry tasting like it was sitting out in a heat tray for a couple of hours. My husband ordered the Pulled Pork Sandwich that comes with Fries, Coleslaw, and a Pickle! Now that's a meal.. if it would of turned out good. The meat was dry with no seasoning or flavor. Pulled Pork with no flavor??? What! Nothing was fresh and with the wind conditions all we wanted to do was get out of there. A total waste.

The gold sauce is certainly the star of the show here. Make sure you try it if you visit. Perhaps I made a mistake by not ordering the pulled pork since that seems to be their specialty, but I wasn't in the mood for it when we stopped by. I ended up getting the smoked sausage with peppers and onions added and onion rings as my side. Also had some of their rib tips, tried their ribs, and had several bites of the mac and cheese. The rib tips were tasty, but I didn't like that they came pre-sauced. I would rather sauce them myself. The smoked sausage had a pretty good flavor to it, but it was on the tiny side and only took up about 60-70% of the bun it occupied. The onion rings were pretty standard and I felt like the mac and cheese was on the dry side and a little lacking in flavor. The ambiance and service were quite good in my opinion. Not terrible by any stretch, but fairly average BBQ.

I have driven by the Dixie Pig hundreds of times since I moved to south Florida many years ago. First time finally trying it. Stopped here on a late Saturday afternoon. Easy parking and walk right up to the counter. I only had a pork sandwich to go, no sides, so my review is limited. The sandwich was huge, the bun soft (but not falling apart) and the tangy sauce good (a bit sour and a bit sweet). So, I am sorry I waited so long to try it, but I will be back again and try some of the other stuff.

This is bar far the best BBQ places In The fort lauderdale areas! I've come here on serval occasions with skeptical people and made believers of all them. Portions of the ribs could be bigger but just the preparation of the meat is amazing the prices are fair and the sides are good as well! You have a customer for life!

FIVE STARS to this NC original. This old man knows what he is doing with his BBQ. He is one of the few people I have ever asked for an eastern style vinegar base and got what I asked for. Not all BBQ sauce is tomato base! I have ordered eastern style vinegar base and have been disappointed many many times. This is the only place that has got it right. Their mustard base sauce is excellent as well. If you are in Florida, from NC., trust me when I say, GO EAT AT DIXIE PIG!

This place has outdoor seating and since fall was in the air (yes, it was actually in the 80s here in SoFlo) we decided to pay DP BBQ a visit. First impression? What a cool lil mom&pops type joint. You order at a window... lots to choose from and wow! Prices are not bad. The girl at the window was extremely helful and mentioned the pulled pork is popular so I went with the sandwich. I was with 3 others who also ordered meals and they came out rather quickly. My sandwich was good... the pork wasn't pulled too thin. It was juicy and I added just a little of two separate BBQ sauces she brought over. The steak fries and slaw were also good. Everyone else (children included) loved their meals. This place isn't near me, but I think I'll stop back some time.

Decent BBQ, diverse menu, airy dining, and reasonable prices. Every day there's a different special, and it's usually pretty good. I can't say it's the best BBQ in town, but if you are in the area, and it's not the middle of summer scorching hot, then try this place out. Service and hospitality is very good. Ribs, patty melts, chops, chicken are all good. If you want brisket, drive over to Blue Willy's, if it's open.

Ordered in for an office lunch. 2 combos, meatloaf, ribs and chicken. Sides were French fries, hush puppies, cole slaw and mashed potatoes. Everything was really good, they gave us like 5 different barbecue sauces. The only bad thing was I ordered extra rolls for the barbecue pork, and they forgot to out then in the order. We are too far away to go back, and we were charged for them

So far so good little place outdoor seating. Been here a couple of times, pretty good, open air seating, covered though from the sun / rain. Solid lunch here, reasonable price and pretty good food!

My boyfriend and I were craving some BBQ after a 23 hour drive from Michigan to Fort Lauderdale and looked on Yelp to find something nearby. We had plenty of options, but this place looked good, was close, and was totally affordable for our vacation budget! We ordered via phone and I was told it would be ready in less than 10 minutes, which was great, because we were hungry. We split a dinner combination that came with a full rack of ribs, one cornbread, and coleslaw. We subbed the coleslaw for macaroni and added an extra cornbread for a total of $18 and some change. The ribs were amazing, very meaty and slid right off the bone. The BBQ sauce was sweet, which we weren't expecting, but it was very good, so we weren't disappointed. The cornbread was excellent as well, but the macaroni was just average. I wish it were cheesier, but that's just my opinion. My boyfriend actually loved it the way it was made. All in all, we were extremely satisfied and will be back the next time we vacation nearby!

this is a little gem in florida i must say. my parents have been going here for years and raving about it forever. I finally decided to check it out and i am very glad that i did that. I ordered the bbq platter and got hush puppies and mac and cheese. I wasnt a big fan of the mac and cheese but everything else was amazing. The sandwich was huge! I barely finished mine. The meat was tender and cooked perfectly and the choice of sauces are the best part. I really liked the sweet bbq sauce. the hush puppies were not greasy at all and the oninion rings and steak fries were also great sides. The girl at the front desk taking orders was such a sweetheart and seemed so friendly and helpful. She made the whole experience even better...i would recommend dixie pig to anyone looking for amazing bbq in south florida

Came with a friend around 7PM and I'm guessing the cold weather prevented more people from coming. Had the beef and pork combo with two sides (collard greens and baked beans are + $1 as sides, aside from the usual fries and coleslaw I believe) and a medium sweet iced tea. The pork and beef were shredded and a little on the dry side. Not much flavor on its own, but the three accompanying sauces made up for it (mustard, sweet, vinegar...the sweet wasn't unbearably sweet and the vinegar was nice and tart). The collard greens had bits of salt pork but didn't have much of that salty kick I'm used to. The baked beans weren't cloyingly sweet, they were alright. I'd probably come back when there's more people.

I get the pulled pork wherever I go get barbecue, and theirs is the best in the area! I get the platter for $8. It's a lot of food for the price. I love their gold sauce!

So so. Being from NC I did expect more seasoning in the greens, homemade mac and cheese.not bright orange unbaked.and for all of it to be piping hot..not warm on styrofoam. Also pepper sauce with small green peppers and vinegar was not available...yet is traditional. With all the competition you have to get the basics right. Just can't find a Parkers style barbeque like in Wilson NC but so far Jacks on oakland park comes the closest . It is all about right there.

I had two visits here. The first time I ordered ribs and shared them. I thought maybe it was just me since the other person said it was great I just thought they were ehhh, okay. Nothing to write home about. The second visit was last Monday for lunch. Four of us ordered the barbecue lunch plate for $6 which comes with any combination of pork, beef, and/ or chicken. Sounds great, tight? Not so much, the food comes out like it went in the blender and was all put together. I was with a couple children from spring break or I would have taken pictures. Since I was with the kids, I was trying to be cheerful and bite and push the food around the plate until one of them said did they just throw everything in the blender? You couldn't even tell the difference between the meats. When I tell you it was horrible, it was horrible!!! But I thought okay corn and mashed potatoes with gravy, cant screw that up..well they did, they were cold and tasted like they were straight out the can. You can rest assured I will NEVER eat there again and I am sure the three people I was with would not either. The food was so horrific- I give it 0 stars but I can't. I couldn't even drown it in the two barbecue sauces which by the way, I think Kraft barbecue sauce has more flavor to it! So to the rescue is the one star- service overall is friendly. Not overly friendly but not rude either. The restaurant is located on dixie highway between Oakland Park Boulevard and Commercial on the West side. It appears to be in an Old Dairy Queen or something of the sort since there is no inside eating but you can eat outside on picnic tables with a covered patio. Gamble at your own risk..but I'm with Freddie F..

First time here and in love. Killer BBQ. Had the ribs and the BBQ slider sampler (pork, chicken and beef) all delicious. Ribs were literally fall off of the bone! They should have a neon flashing sign advertising just that. The chicken and beef were very tender and moist, the pork was a little dry but still very tasty. I recommend the gold sauce for the sliders, a little sweet and perfectly tangy. Service is great, everyone is so friendly and helpful when trying to make a decision on what to try if it's your first time. Definitely worth a trip out here if you don't live close by like myself.

Nice people, but meat was mushy with no flavor. BBQ sauces okay, and hush puppies good. But don't go here for the meat.

Having lived in eastern NC, I savor vinegar-based pork barbeque, Brunswick Stew, cole slaw, and hush puppies. The Dixie Pig serves excellent authentic food and well worth the trip. Don't be deterred by the age and appearance of this "drive-in". The food is excellent and a unique find.

This place is always a hit with me. The food always delivers. It's always, will it be the ribs? Or the pulled pork? Tonight, the ribs won. As soon as I picked up my order, I could not get home fast enough to tear into those ribs. When I was able too, the ribs just melted in my mouth. Juicy, meaty, and all mine. Perfect combination. This place has never failed me.

I am from Texas and very picky when it comes to BBQ. I have tried a few places in Fort Lauderdale that had good reviews and can honestly say Dixie Pig the best by far out here. When driving by it doesn't look like much but I was very impressed. We tried the sampler which was recommened and also the half rack of ribs. I enjoyed every bit of it!!!! I love the choices of sauces and mixing them =) I do have to add that I do NOT eat coleslaw and this is the first place I liked it at. The sides were just as good as the meat; we had coleslaw, mac and cheese, and greens. Overall this is my top pick for BBQ in the area!!! A must try.

I was here last week but never had a chance to yelp about it Although I am not a super big fan of the vinegar based North Carolina style of BBQ I find this spot very good I enjoyed the pulled pork sandwich and the beans, and loved the banana pudding. If you have never been here its worth giving it a try. They have friendly counter service prices are good.

I've been here twice for lunch. Excellent pulled pork sandwiches with authentic made-in-North Carolina sauces on the tables. I really like their vinegar-based eastern North Carolina sauce. I'm also a fan of the open-air seating.

Overall, my experience at Dixie Pig was "meh." I was excited to see crab cakes on the menu. I ordered them, then asked if they were real crab meat. They are not. They are Krab cakes. As I am allergic to Krab, I opted for the fried shrimp dinner. The cashier assured me the mashed potatoes were real, so I chose mashed potatoes and beans for sides. My boyfriend had the BBQ beef dinner, with mashed potatoes and baked beans, as well. The BBQ beef was okay- it was tender (I had a bite) and moist, if a little bland. However, I will bet my potato masher those mashed potatoes weren't real, unless of course, the cashier meant real potato flakes. (I didn't actually specify "made from scratch") The brown gravy was, well, brown. I intensely dislike the chemical flavor of instant gravy, so even if the potatoes were actually real, the fake gravy would have ruined it for me. And in the coincidence of the century, Dixie Pig and Bushs' have almost the same baked bean recipe. (Apparently that dog couldn't keep the recipe secret...) By far, the most egregious culinary sin, for me, is being served shrimp with the mud vein still present. I was really hungry, so I ate a few, but they tasted a bit fishy and the "I'm eating poop" mantra chanting in my head every time I chewed completely demolished my dining pleasure. The hush puppies were quite tasty, though I am uncertain if I could make a whole lunch of them. I had no problem with the rusticity of the outdoor setting- I generally prefer the ambience of tacky tchotchkes and bizarre signs to prissy over-designed restaurants... But. No. We won't be going back. And I am still hungry. : (

It's a little, somewhat divey roadside hole in the wall, very typical Southern roadside like BBQ operation specializing in North Carolina vinegar based pulled pork sandwiches but also has other offering such ribs St. Louis style ribs, burgers, fries, sometimes a Brunswick stew, hot dogs, country fried steak, hush puppies, okra, coleslaw, Southern sweet ice tea and other various items. The service counter is walk up and the dinning area basically open air but roof covered. It can be rather hot during summer months and at those times while feasting on your barbecue, and as a word of caution, the mosquitoes may be feasting on your leg shanks; especially if you're showing off the tenderness of your own meat by wearing shorts. The owner is from North Carolina and he really does know his Carolina pulled pork barbecue served plain, usually eaten plain by the pulled pork aficionados but with your choice of four table top bottle sauces available. Overall, the service is pleasing and polite. It has that typically pleasant laid back Carolina roadside picnic ambiance about it and, for North Carolina pulled pork, actually one of the best around.

Trying out the N.C. BBQ sandwich w/ steak fries ($6.95). It's their specialty...! (A half-hour later....) Well, it wasn't quite the pulled-pork experience I was anticipating from all the raves. The sandwich was wholly okay -- nothing special or even very good. My sandwich seriously lacked any seasoning. It was quite meaty, but just no salt or pepper or BBQ flavor. (And, the bottom bun was wet and soggy. The texture of wet bread is a turn-off for me. The cole slaw side was okay -- again, nothing special. Steak fries were, too, merely okay -- under-salted and merely edible. Lemonade was tasty -- a little on the sweet side for my palate, but it was quenching. I've passed this joint a million times and always wanted to try it out. Now I can say I've tried it....

BEST BBQ in South Florida, hands down. Friendly, fast service. Lots of tables (all outside). Bring your pets along and sit at one of the giant rocking tables or another patio tables. Portions are huge. Flavor is great. Ribs are well seasoned and perfectly cooked. Tender but not fall off the bone (they're not supposed to fall off!) Sides like hushpuppies, beans, corn on the cobb, fries - all delicious. Blueberry Cobbler for dessert. It's super cheap and huge. Sweet Tea is delicious and again, HUGE. Finger licking good. I had bbq sauce from ear to ear. :D

We came here for lunch on a count that every other place was closed. We said lets try a new place out. It is a small little place and located on a very nice shady area. We tried not to order too much food but us being us we of course ordered enough food for 4. The lady that took our order was very nice and helpful explaining somethings we didn't know about. For example I didn't know what Brunswick Stew was and she explained clearly was it was. We didn't get the stew. Didn't sound too exciting also i wanted ribs and hush puppies. We get to ordering, our selection consisted of a platter that contained both shredded pork and beef. That plate was accompanied by four hush puppies, cole slaw, and steak fries. I ordered half rack of ribs platter which came with cole slaw, and steak fries. We also got a side order of mac and cheese. It was extremely affordable. The cashier also the waitress brought our food to us. We found a rocking table under a tree, it was perfect shady and breezy. We get our food and after taking an exuberance amount of pictures we start to dig in. Here are my thoughts on the food. While I knew by looking at the place the food wasn't going to be life changing I had no idea it was pretty bad. The ribs were good but lacking flavor. The cole slaw was very questionable so we decided to not try it. The fries were good but clearly previously frozen. The shredded beef and pork were a little on the dry side. You can make mac and cheese from a box taste better than what they have here. The hush puppies, the service, and the seating area was the only reason I decided to give this place two stars. I probably wont be going back here.

Again with the BBQ, I know, I'm obsessed. Anyway, this is a little place and we had their pulled pork sandwiches. They were a little dry, but as soon as you add some sauce they get much better. I like the fact that they don't drench their meat in sauce because sometimes that makes me sick, but it would be better if it were a little more moist so that you don't HAVE to put sauce on it if you don't want to. I liked the place though, and we will probably be back to try other things on the menu.

prices are way to high for a place that looks like a 3rd world trailer park pig stye. you can't screw up cooked meat unless yr serving old/ spoiled the bar-b-q sauce is gonna make or break the place. nothing out standing about this dive. it's hit or miss !!!!!!!!!!!!

I can't believe how bad this place was I got a half chicken dinner. The chicken was puny, and dry the beans were canned for sure the portions were microscopic, and the price was a rip off. I'm sorry there's only one barbecue spot and that's !TOM JENKINS! period. Please don't listen to these the other reviews who like this place. If your used to authentic don't stop here unless some one else is paying.

I wanted to like it... But it was not only bad, it was awful. Everyone ordered different things, and no one liked anything, it was a huge let down. The pulled pork tasted like it was cooked in a crock pot, there is no way it was smoked.

I love coming to this place for breakfast! I usually get the two eggs with cornbeef hash, hash browns, rye toast, and iced tea. Nothing better than eating your breakfast outside on a Styrofoam plate and plastic forks. The treat sauce and gold sauce on my eggs is the main reason for coming here. Best outside breakfast in fort Lauderdale. The BBQ is all the rave as well, I only get one platter for lunch, that is the BBQ chicken platter. Perfectly flavorful chicken with with an option of plenty delicious sauces. Steak fries, vinager based cole slaw, hushpuppies, and outside seating! North Carolina bbq is my favorite, even though I never had nc BBQ in Carolina.

Its a Road Side BBQ Shack, its NC style, which in south Florida is the only place that serves both Eastern and Western Carolina sauces, Eastern Vinegar, and Western Mustard. Good non-mayo cole slaw.

Dixie's is a place that you can get delicious, succulent, grilled meat which you can bedazzle with a variety of vinegar based, Carolina' sauces. All of which are provided at every table in unlimited supply. They are all tasty in their own right and worth giving a try. Besides lunch, this little roadside stand also serves breakfast. At breakfast, you can order a man size burrito, which as a man... or mostly a man, I can barely finish in the morning. I highly recommend this option if you have the time to stop off and get one prepared for you hot and fresh.

Solid BBQ for South Florida. I wasn't blown away by anything, but the pork sandwiches and fried okra were pretty good. They are a North Carolina-style place, and they have 4 sauces: vinegar, gold (mustard-based), sweet, and "treet" (sweet & vinegar mix). The only one I really liked was the sweet, as I'm not a fan of vinegar-based Q sauce. Reasonable prices and friendly staff. The seating is all outdoors, so it could be a little hot during the summertime (March-October) LOL. I will probably hit up this place again for lunch sometime...

Looking at the reviews, we were excited to try this place. We had the beef sandwich, 1/2 rack, Mac n cheese, and baked beans. The sandwich was moist, but that was it. No flavor at all! The ribs were also moist, but they were not fresh. The meat did not pull from the bone like it should and the bone was dry and tasteless. Worst of all was that the inner lining of the rack was left on there. What little flavor was on the inner bone was lost when we had to remove the lining. The Mac n cheese was dry and flavorless. It looked as if they used a cheese sauce instead of a homemade recipe. The baked beans were the best part of the meal, even though they tasted like canned beans with a touch of sugar. We will not be returning here!

On a nice day, this place is perfect. Food is awesome, they give me vinegar for my fries and cold beer. Redneck nirvana.

Good Carolina style BBQ. If you don't like Carolina style then you won't like this place. The pulled pork was great... It was vinegar based but if you add two of their BBQ sauces it's really good! The fries were okay, but the okra was on point. It's an outside seating area, almost like a concession stand type of place. Good prices.

Lindsay W's review is SPOT ON. Minced and roasted pork, not pulled and smoked. Not awful, but as close to authentic BBQ as a McRib.(Yes, I put cole slaw on top of it) The meat was watery and moist, not fatty and moist like if it were really smoked. And for all you "I'm from the South, and this food is the real deal" people, take a walk around the building. Notice anything missing? Yeah, there's no smoker whatsoever. None in the kitchen, either. I'm a yankee, but pretty sure you don't make authentic BBQ in an oven. It was good enough, but nothing you couldn't make in a crock pot. No smoke taste at all. For real BBQ, keep going south on Dixie, make a right on Oakland Park, and look for the place with a big pile of wood and two smokers belching smoke on the left. DOn't know the name, but it's hard to miss. *edit* Jacks BBQ ^^^ *edit* Haven't been there for a couple years, reviews seem to have gone down lately. Try it at your own risk.

Despite not being that hungry, I tagged along with a coworker to try out their BBQ. (My go-to BBQ place by work recently closed). Dixie Pig is a no frills place, which really adds to its charm. Plus, the prices are very reasonable. We shared the BBQ sampler which included 3 different BBQ sandwiches; pork, chicken and beef. Unfortunately, none of them really stood out for me, though the pork was my favorite. Also, the gold/yellowish BBQ sauce was really good! On any other given day I would have chowed down on a rack of baby backs, but considering I had to go back to work, the idea didn't strike my fancy as I'm sure I would have been in a food coma the rest of the day. But I do have to say that an order of hush puppies is an absolute MUST since they are addicting. If you can, grab one of the swinging benches to the left of the counter/kitchen. If it isn't too hot out, it's a good place to grab a quick bite.

In the middle of industrialville. Great pork great service. Loved the sauces. Hushpuppies delish. Coleslaw good vinegar based. Corn meh. Mac n cheese runny but not bad. Mashed potatoes thumbs up

Defiantly North Carolina BBQ. If you are not used to vinegar based BBQ this might not be the place for you. BBQ pork is awesome, i love it.

Classic little hole in the wall BBQ joint. It is basically a walk-up counter with seating in a covered open-air patio w/metal picnic tables looking out at the street. We ordered the pulled pork sandwiches with steak fries, bottle of beer, and iced tea. The sandwiches were served naked on a huge bun, so you can add the flavor and amount of sauce to your liking. There are 4 different sauces available on the table - Sweet (traditional sweet tomato-based), Gold (mustard based), Treet, and Vinegar. We stuck with the Sweet and Gold, and the sandwiches were very good. The steak fries were large and crisp without being burnt. The side of sweet coleslaw was exactly the style I like (not bitter like most) and there was also a slice of dill pickle included. Though we read that it was voted Best BBQ by a local paper, we were a little hesitant to try it when we drove up at 7:45pm on a Thursday and there was only 1 customer eating there. But we were glad we did, because it was pretty tasty for a very reasonable price (above meal was less than $20 total). The atmosphere is nothing fancy, but it was clean and the gal who brought the food to our table was nice enough. I imagine this place is busy as heck at lunchtime. Next time we're in Lauderdale, we'll probably hit Dixie Pig again and try the sampler platter...

For BBQ in South Florida, this place is great! Yes, the pulled pork can be a bit dry with no sauce, but I like that you can pick your own sauce. Can't beat their tangy mustard bbq sauce, I could drink the stuff! They also have a great vinegar coleslaw, not the real creamy stuff. Nothing special about the buns, the atmosphere or location, but for some of the best BBQ in South Florida....worth a stop.

No frills BBQ joint where you sit outside and enjoy heaping piles of pulled pork, ribs and sides on styrofoam plates. Good value and satisfying ... just not sure if you'd go out of your way to come here. We were in the neighborhood and looking for something quick and easy. Hit the spot. Like the variety in hot sauces.

I have been back here several times since my last review and I have to say, it only gets better. If you live in the area and have not stopped by this place then you are missing out. Incredible food, excellent service and oh yeah...the sweet tea is as good as the food.

I'm not a huge fan of NC style 'cue but this place is more than that... I like the fact that they won't speak to you if you are on a cell phone (yeah fight the good fight!) Good BBQ great cheesesteak (go figure) nice people...

I'm starting to learn not to trust my fellow Yelpers (sorry ya'll). I had been craving a good, deep south kinda meal. Real BBQ, golden hushpuppies, and creamy banana pudding. My family is from NC so once I saw the reviews saying that Dixie was real authentic Carolina style BBQ, I was sold. But I think ya'll must have been smoking crack. The pulled pork was not pulled, it was minced, and mushy, it looked and felt exactly like cheap canned tuna. The hushpuppies were ok - but only ok. They are the savory kind with herbs and pepper... and I prefer sweet hushpuppies. I'm not going to dock them points because of my personal preference. The hushpuppies were allright but FAR from ("out of this world" as someone else had said they were). Their fried chicken tasted like what I imagine prison fried chicken to be. Small, mostly breading (little actual meat), and bland as water. This chicken had ZERO flavor. The side items with the chicken were a cup of Muselman's applesauce (ooo how homemade!!) and "mashed" potatoes which I speculate was actually a baked potato scooped out of it's skin because it was hard, firm, not creamy, and definitely not mashed. The BBQ sauces were ok. The "Gold" and the "Sweet" sauces are the only reason I was able to eat any of the food. But REAL bbq shouldn't need sauce. ESPECIALLY Carolina bbq. BBQ is all about the quality of the meat, the spices/marinades, and how long it's smoked/cooked. Not only was this food disgusting, it was SO FAR from authentic Carolina Style BBQ you might as well have called it Chinese food, or put it in some other genre of food. I don't really want to talk about the Banana Pudding because that was the biggest let down. So we'll just keep it at that. I also got about 23 mosquito bites (not exaggerating) while placing my order because mosquito's seem to have taken up residence on the black mats on the ground. Oh and one last note.... my boyfriend and I were both sick to our stomach's the next day.

PROS: + good pulled pork barbecue, Carolinas style + good selection of BBQ sauces to choose from - I think I stuck by "gold" + friendly lady behind the cash register + plenty of parking + covered outdoor seating CONS: - a total dive (maybe it's a plus?) - bathroom in back feels like the building was a former gas station. actually it might have been - no indoor seating

I am not a big fan of Carolina vinegar-based BBQ, which is what this place does. That said, prices are great, helpings are generous and the people are very friendly. Seating is largely outdoors. Not bad, not my favorite either.

No offense, but you "Yankies" who gave poor reviews need to get a grip...LOL !! (a joke, don't get your tightie-whities in a wad.) This place serves real Southern BBQ. The restaurant is open style, which keeps the overhead and cost down. It's not meant to be a sit-down restaurant with a waitress. It' was originally a walk-up window and now has a few tables. If the tables are full, you carry your food home. In the South, we don't bury the BBQ in sauce ... We leave that up to you ... that way you can actually taste the meat and flavor it to taste. If the BBQ is buried in sauce, then you're getting meat flavored sauce, not real BBQ. The owner once lived in NC and knows how to make a great BBQ plate with hushpuppies and cold-slaw to boot. Best of all, they serve real sweet-tea. (Again, if you have ask if the tea is sweetened or not, you're in the wrong place. We Southerner's like our tea sweet, no lie !!)

LOVE LOVE N LOVE...my family is very southern (not texas deep south), and this is the stuff I looked foward on trips to see.family...my nanas chicken n dumplings, kays kastle ice cream, krystal burgers and pig bbq nc style...when I found ths place by accident 10 years ago I knew I could live in south florida... I always get the pulled pork platter with slaw and a bun on side to make my own sandwich..now if ya want to eat the.pulled pork sandwich the way god meant ya to, put the slaw on sandwich, only then can some of you less positive people have a right to an opinion on NC Style.pulled pork tell then we in the know are just laughing at ya for having zero clue what your on about...I digress....the hush puppies are fantastic, the fried okra just makes me happy on the inside and I love the desert.of the day...homemade. Now the sauces I thought were all homemade on site...which by the by yankees n texas folk are meant to enhance the smoke flavor not drowned the species origin, if your not sure if its pig or chicken you should stick the Mc'Rib as your go to bbq sandwich... I have never in 10 years had.a bad meal there, and have made many a new Dixie Pig fan out of anyone I have taken there..thank you for exsisting D.Pig! SweetTea Nation Unite!!!

This place focuses on Carolina style pulled/chopped pork BBQ. Having been raised in North Carolina and being an avid BBQ lover, I consider myself somewhat of an expert on this type of BBQ, especially the eastern vinegar style. Overall its not bad. The meat tended to be a little on the dry side and was missing the crunchy little pieces of pork skin that lets you know it's authentic; however, it did have a nice peppery vinegar flavor that is associated with Carolina BBQ. The BBQ sauces do a decent job of complimenting the pork, especially the vinegar sauce, but is otherwise pretty standard fare.

5 stars because Eastern NC BBQ is what I love. As mentioned, do not expect any sauce on your sandwich outside of a slight spicy vinegar tinge. The pulled pork is succulent, tender, and delicious. I can't really say I care about anything else. I will admit, Dixie Pig is so authentic I've driven up from Miami Beach specifically to go there more than once.

Ohhh sooo yummmy plethora -o- saucesssss!! Very random whole in the wall...oohhh wait there are NO walls...its all open but does have a roof. Lunch time is full of professionals & blue collar workers & it gets full. The pulled pork sandwich was GRRRREAT!! The BBQ sauces were all great but my favs were the "treat" & "sweet". I also tried this soup/stew thing (forgot the name) & it wasn't to my liking but didn't care. They also have "sweet tea" here. Its on Dixie, they serve pig, & food is served from behind a bar...doesn't get much better!

Hailing from North Carolina, I was quite surprised and delighted to find Eastern Style North Carolina BBQ in Fort Lauderdale. Anyone who has been to South Florida knows that the further South you get in this state, the less Southern it is, so finding a place that does down home BBQ and sweet tea is a real treat. The Dixie Pig does the vinegar based pulled pork as is typically found in Eastern North Carolina BBQ. (FYI, Western or Lexington style NC BBQ is a tomato and vinegar base). I had pulled pork sandwich and it came naked so you can actually taste the meat. The restaurant provides an array of sauces so you can choose the sauce to your liking . Their signature sauce is a vinegar and pepper sauce that is wonderful doused on your sandwich but is equally wonderful doused on your fries (think fish and chips style, yall!). They also offer a more traditional sugary tomato based sauce (Memphis style) and a mustard based sauce (SC Style, think of Maurices BBQ). I'm partial to the spicy vineger base. Dixie pig offers an array of sides such as coleslaw, fried okra, hushpuppies and fries. They also serve breakfast from their counter, which is a great deal for anyone working in the area with a hearty appetite. I really enjoyed the BBQ and atmosphere at Dixie Pig but I must say, I was disappointed in their coleslaw. Good BBQ needs to have a good slaw to go with it. Their mayonais-ey concoction almost ruined my sandwich. I had to cut mine with large amounts of tobasco and the vinegar sauce to make it agreeable with the sanwich. Dixie Pig is probably one of the few places you can get banana pudding in South Florida, and for that very reason I will return. The lady at the counter in the blue eyeshadow and big hair made the experience all more memorable, not to mention the colorful nature of Oakland Park Florida. I bought a bottle of the vinegar sauce and plan on using it as a base for some cole slaw. If it turns out well, I will share it with them and hope for the best. Lord knows they have plenty of vinegar in that joint and can give that mayo a break. Robyn Medlin grillgrrrl.com

Still good food, but watch out for the ever popular COLD chicken. Yes, the 1/2 BBQ chicken that I love here so much is about 50% of the time cold in the middle (and occasionally dry). It's still a good break from the norm though. I'll keep trying it.

The Dixie Pig is excellent. It is just like all the previous reviews stated: if you like North Carolina B-B-Q with a vinegar base, you will love this place. I had the pork sandwich, with steak fries and baked beans and it was really, really good. The pork was tender and moist and very flavorful. My wife had the steak burger which is covered in gravy and she loved it. If you like b-b-q, then you will love the Dixie Pig. No doubt about it.

Best Q outside NC. Stopped in today for a pulled pork sandwich and it awesome. The lady calls ya Sweetie when you order. The coleslaw is the NC vinegar type and it is yummy. Love this place. It could be cleaned up a bit and I bet it would be great place to hang, still the food is great.

This is a great little BBQ shack! The BBQ is good...wish the sandwiched came with some of the sauce soaked in a bit. They should have a few more options for sides...but with fried okra and hushpuppies that good, it's easily overlooked.

This place could be feeding me kitty and I'd still eat it. I always seem to have a thing for the crappy little BBQ places the most other people wouldn't even stop for. Just give me a pulled pork sandwich and some of their sweet bbq sauce and I'm happy. Oh and they have this great redneck banana cream desert thing I really enjoy too! Also, you can swing by this place for a quick and cheap eggs and toast breakfast. All seating is outside so if you wear a suit to work you're likely to get a little sweaty.

They still get 4 stars for the bbq, but last time I visited they updated the cole slaw and now it is strictly the vinegar based kind, no creaminess. I really liked the creamier version 100% better. Bring back the other cole slaw!

Sorry to the other poster whose "family is from NC" but from someone who actually grew up there, this place has it nailed. The vinager-based sauce is dead on and the pulled pork is amazing. Just like they do up north in the South. I have been searching for the 10 years since I moved down to South Florida for a good NC-Style BBQ joint and have finally found it. They have the perfect east NC vinager sauce, west NC tomoto-based sauce and a good SC mustard-based sauce. Hushpuppies were fresh and crisp and the cole slaw had just the right mix of creamy and vinagery. Would highly recommend to anyone nostalgic for good hometown Carolina BBQ. I first passed it a few months ago and have been back at least once a week since. Love it!

If you need a North Carolina pulled pork barbecue fix - THIS is the place! Personally, I like the no-frills atmosphere and the covered, but open air seating (they have roll-down bimini-type panels if it's chilly outside). I've never had anything other than the pulled-pork plate with the NC-style Vinegar-Based Barbecue Sauce (with baked beans, hushpuppies, and slaw), but having lived in NC for a number of years, that's the reason I go to Dixie Pig in the first place (homestyle comfort food). There are other bbq sauce choices and certainly plenty of menu items. And of course, the sweet tea is authentic as well. Good eats and fast, friendly service!

  • Boone Z.

The atmosphere is BBQ: picnic style; covered but not enclosed and you eat on picnic style metal tables. If you want some delicious BBQ come to this place. Great to carry out from if you want a more comfortable place, but this brought me back to NC style BBQ pits.

Little hole in the wall place, fast service and decent prices. Wasn't crazy about the food, pork was way too watery for some reason. Sauces are meh definitely have had way better.

This place is OK for a quick stop and bite to eat. I got a pulled pork sandwich and you need a ton of bbq sauce to make it taste good. It's not horrible but I've had better pulled pork sandwiches elsewhere. I bet the ribs are delicious though.

  • Jonathan R.

I lived out in BF NC for the longest time, and went to many a BBQ place, and this place ain't bad. The folks are friendly, service is fast, and the food is great. I wouldn't say its the best I ever had, but it ranks up there pretty darned close.

    (4)
  • Randy L.

The North Carolina BBQ is traditional and very good. The fries and the hushpuppies are pretty darned good too. I will continue to visit Dixie Pig for these dishes only as pretty much everything else I've tried there just didn't thrill me to say the least. Until they do something about that terrible Cole Slaw I can only give them 3 stars especially considering the fact that I LOvE COLE SLAW ON MY PULLED PORK SANDWICH! (They might also want to clean up the dining area a bit...it always seems sticky and dirty to me.)

    (3)
  • Alan G.

Good BBQ at a good price. It's reminiscent of an old wooden, roadside stand. Don't expect a/c!

    (4)
  • Simon H.

A bit of a letdown, given the authentic setting (hint: not a spot for a first date) and strong reviews. I had the pulled pork sandwich, and for some reason, they served it "naked," or without any BBQ sauce on it. Maybe that's a NC thing (where the place has roots in), but I think that pouring the BBQ sauce on a sandwich cheapens it. Also, without any sauce on the meat, I was able to taste it a bit more closely, and it was also disappointing. I thought it could have been better.

Yummmmmmmmmm. Reminds me so much of driving winding country roads through Western North Carolina as a child... coming upon random roadside pit BBQ places. SO GOOD. The pulled pork and the fried okra are to die for.

Best Carolina BBQ in FTL. Love this place. It looks like a really bad ice cream stand, but the food it just amazing. I would recommend this place to everyone.
